An experiential weekend of human movement science & play!

Apply scientific concepts creatively through lecture, group discussion, asana practice, and movement play. This workshop is designed to help you investigate and integrate evidence-based mind-body movement practices in a practical and personal way. Perfect for students and teachers wishing to deepen their understanding of human movement theory and build practical experience to support a holistic movement practice (on and off your mat).

Biotensegrity

Rethinking the idea that your body is a stack of bones being pulled upon by individual muscles, but rather a fluid structure of bones floating within tension provided by the body’s many tissues.

The Anatomy of Breathing

What are the mechanics of breathing? What does it affect? How is it tied to core stability? What role does it play in human movement/yoga asana? How can we become more conscious of this precious resource?

The Nervous System

We’ll delve into an understanding of the central and peripheral nervous system, the body’s electrical wiring system, and its relationship to movement, what is under voluntary and involuntary control, and its complex relationship to motor control, our ability to adapt to environmental stresses, proprioception/balance, pain, and more.

Overview of Muscle Function, Origin and Insertion, & Interdependence

Exploration of the upper and lower extremity, the spine and global abdominal system, and the interdependence of tissues and joint regions.
