The autumn equinox marks the transition of summer to fall in the northern hemisphere. In agrarian cultures, this was the time of the harvest and when people would gather and preserve the fruits of their summer labors for the winter ahead. Even though our modern culture has moved away from this close connection to seasonal cycles, by making an effort to stay connected to them I find myself noticing how my body still craves these cycles of ebb and flow.
It is the summer’s great last heat,
It is the fall’s first chill: They meet.
